VATICAN CITY
Although our family is not religious, it would obviously have been churlish to come to Rome and not visit Vatican City. The City itself is surrounded by a high wall, so you need to make your way to the entry point that leads you directly into St. Peter's Square. Depending on where you are staying in Rome, this might be a long walk! The Square itself is very beautiful - it is a large open space which you enter through a series of impressive colonnades with popes and other religious figures on top of them. When we visited, the Square was filled with pilgrims from all over the world, flying flags and singing songs. There are plenty of concrete bollards in the Square that you can sit on to rest and to soak up the atmosphere. Vatican City has its own unique postal service, so we made sure to buy postcards and the special Vatican City stamps, for the children to send to their friends back home. FIND OUT MORE |
