BERLIN ZOO AND AQUARIUM
We visited quite a few zoos and aquariums during our tour of Europe and China. Like many people, I have very mixed feelings about taking my children to zoos. It's never great to see living creatures caged up, but it does offer a brilliant way for children to learn about animals that they could never hope to see in the wild. Berlin Zoo felt quite dated, and the animals were housed in small and rather bleak looking enclosures, although there have been some attempts at modernisation. The aquarium felt more up to date and better maintained, and it was a real highlight of our visit to Berlin. As well as the usual fish and related sea creatures, there was a great selection of reptiles and snakes. You can visit the aquarium separately to the zoo.
