PARQUE DAS NAÇÕES
The Parque das Nações is in Lisbon, just up river from the centre of town, and it is set in beautiful surroundings on the bank of the River Tagus. The park was developed on the site of the Expo that was held in Lisbon in 1998. It's a great place to visit, with beautiful gardens, a fantastic aquarium, a science centre, lots of restaurants, a cable car and a concert hall. You also get a lovely view of the Vasco da Gama bridge, which is the longest bridge in Europe. The cable car runs along the river, and if you look down during your ride you can see fish and jelly fish in the waters below. The short ride takes you from one end of the expo site to the other (and back again, if you wish). As well as being a great place to relax, learn or have lunch, some well known bands play at the concert hall. The park is set over a large area, so expect to be doing quite a bit of walking on your visit and leave yourselves plenty of time to explore. It is sometimes possible to hire a go kart or a bike to explore the park, although in typically Portuguese fashion this is a bit hit and miss. You can also go on a tour of the site on an electric train. FIND OUT MORE |
