MUSEUM FÜR NATURKUNDE
The Natural History Museum was a highlight of our stay in Berlin. The Museum is as impressive as its namesake in London, and a lot less crowded. There is an excellent interactive film exhibit about the cosmos, where you can lie back and be transported through space. There is also a very strange room full of samples preserved in bottles, which is like something out of the film Aliens. There are some stunning rocks, crystals and minerals on display, which always seem to capture the children's attention. And there is also, according to my son, the "most famous fossil in the world". The 'Berlin Specimen' of Archaeopteryx is the most complete example ever found. It was discovered not long after Charles Darwin wrote The Origin of Species. In an amusing twist to the tale, the guy who discovered this very precious fossil sold it for the money to buy a cow. FIND OUT MORE |
