MUSEO DEL NOVECENTO
We visited a lot of museums and art galleries during our Road School trip, and this museum was one of the most striking. The Museo del Novecento is a museum of twentieth century art, located right next to the gorgeous Milan Cathedral. There is something very pleasing about the contrast between the challenging and often abstract art in the museum, and the views that you get of the Duomo through the windows at regular intervals as you walk around. When we visited we were lucky enough to turn up on one of the regular "free days" that the Italian Government do throughout the year (you find out more about these free days here). The Museo del Novecento had a wide range of modern art - from sculptures to paintings, from the abstract to the realist. It was fascinating to talk with our children about which art they enjoyed, and why. I also found it really interesting that they seemed to connect much more easily with the modern art that we saw during our journey than they did with some of the older and very famous paintings that we went to see.
