CASTELLO SFORZESCO
Castello Sforzesco (also sometimes referred to as 'Castello Sforza') is an amazing castle in Milan. It was built by Francesco Szorfa, the Duke of Milan, in the fifteenth century. The castle is an architectural wonder, both inside and out - the detail is amazing and it is in a great state of preservation. Inside the castle there are various museums and galleries, which cover a variety of different subjects, including a museum with lots of fascinating Egyptian exhibits in it, and another with a great selection of weapons and armour. There are also beautifully laid out gardens with statues (some of which are modernist, including a set of brightly coloured birds for your children to sit or play on). One of the reasons why we visited the castle was because it has a close connection to Leonardo da Vinci. The Duke of Sforza lent Leonardo a room in the castle to stay in, when he was working on The Last Supper. While he was staying there, he painted a fresco on the walls and ceiling on the room. When we visited, the fresco was still undergoing restoration. FIND OUT MORE |
