THE BERLIN WALL
When you go to see the Berlin Wall, you go to see something that doesn't exist anymore (which is a bit strange if you think about it.) All that remains of the wall is a section of the Wall displayed outside the Checkpoint Charlie Museum, and little brass plaques in the ground, along the line where the wall used to run. A visit to the Berlin Wall offers a great chance to share some history with your children, about the aftermath of World War 2, the Cold War, and a time when people believed that there might be a nuclear war. (I can still remember the booklet that was sent to our home, telling us what to do in the event of a nuclear attack). You can find some of the plaques in the centre of Berlin, close to the Reichstag, the Brandenburg Gate and the Holocaust Memorial, so you can combine seeing the remnants of the wall with a visit to other key sights in the city.
